Big Peat 12 Years Old - 700 ml
Introduction
Big Peat 12 Years Old is a premium Islay blended malt Scotch whisky produced by the independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co.. Launched in August 2020, it is a permanent addition to the Remarkable Regional Malts series, which was first established in 2009 to showcase the distinctive maritime character of Scotland's whisky regions. The spirit is a unique marriage of single malt whiskies exclusively from the island of Islay, including well known names such as Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and the legendary Port Ellen.
Spirit Description
True to the traditional Douglas Laing style, this 12 year old expression is bottled without artificial colouring or chill filtration. It is matured predominantly in ex-bourbon casks to allow the naturally oily and phenolic character of the Islay spirit to take centre stage.
Colour: The whisky possesses a natural and seductive golden hue.
Aroma: The nose opens clean, fresh, and oceanic with salty sea air and iodine, developing into sweet malt dried over peat and hints of lemon zest.
Palate: It offers a rich and concentrated palate of charred oak, chimney smoke, and summer tar, complemented by notes of roasted barley, dark chocolate, and black pepper.
Body: The spirit is full bodied, oily, and thick, providing a warming sensation with every sip.
Finish: It concludes with a long and lingering finish of brown sugar, bonfire ashes, and a real phenolic quality.
ABV: Big Peat 12 Years Old is bottled at 46%.
