Bibi Graetz Canaiolo di Testamatta Toscana 2009

Bibi Graetz Canaiolo di Testamatta Toscana 2009

Bibi Graetz is a nonconformist in the Tuscan wine sector. Based just outside of Florence, he makes intense wines categorized as IGT Toscana, working with old vineyards of indigenous grapes in Chianti. His wines don't fit cleanly into either the Super Tuscan or Chianti camps.  Whatever the labeling, the wines must be tasted to be believed; they are exquisitely subtle expressions of Sangiovese.

The red wine grape Canaiolo (or Canaiolo Nero) is widely planted in Central Italy, primarily in Tuscany. It is one of the primary varietals used in the Chianti blend and is resistant to most vine diseases. It yields superb red wines with ripe red fruit flavours and hints of dry spices. The 2009 Bibi Graetz Canaiolo is a superb wine with dried cherry and plum notes, an earthy scent, medium acidity, and moderate tannins.
