A Tale of Two Banffs is a highly limited, single-cask release of Benrinnes 11 Year Old single malt scotch whisky. Spirit Description
This 11-year-old single malt underwent a specific two-stage maturation process: it was aged for 9 years in ex-bourbon casks before being finished for its final 2 years in Oloroso Sherry Octave casks. Octave casks, being much smaller than standard butts, provide a significantly higher surface-area-to-liquid ratio, leading to a rapid and intense flavor extraction.
Nose: It opens with a distinct red wine and ethanol punch, which quickly settles into a playful aroma of Juicy Fruit gum, citrus zest, and a hint of vanilla.
Palate: Surprisingly dry and tannic given the sherry finish. It features a "tannic tug" on the sides of the tongue, with nuanced notes of bold fruits and a subtle, meaty spice characteristic of the Benrinnes distillate.
Finish: Exceptionally long and evolving. The oak spice finally takes center stage, bringing a slight tropical sweetness and a lingering warmth. It is bottled at a powerful cask strength of 57% ABV (though some batches vary slightly to 56%) and is non-chill filtered with no added color.
