Armand Heitz Volnay Santenots Premier Cru 2019

This refined red wine originates from France, specifically from the esteemed Volnay Premier Cru 'Santenots' vineyard located in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. Established as a family domain in Chassagne Montrachet, the estate was revitalized when the young and dynamic winemaker Armand Heitz took over the family vines, adopting a progressive winemaking philosophy deeply rooted in agroecology, biodynamics, and regenerative farming. Although geographically situated within the boundaries of Meursault, the Santenots plot possesses distinct clay-heavy soils that are uniquely suited to producing exceptional Pinot Noir, which by law carries the Volnay Premier Cru designation.

Wine Description

The 2019 Volnay Premier Cru Santenots presents a beautifully brilliant ruby red colour in the glass. On the nose, it is highly perfumed and expressive, revealing an elegant bouquet of juicy red cherries, raspberries, and wild strawberries, accented by delicate notes of rose petals, light earth, and wet stone. The palate is medium bodied and impeccably balanced, showcasing a pure core of crisp red fruits supported by silky tannins and a vibrant acidity. It exhibits a fine mineral and graphite edge, culminating in a very long, precise, and structural finish. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, this elegantly styled wine handles its structural depth with great finesse. While it offers fantastic early drinking appeal due to its seamless texture, it is built with the capacity to age gracefully for 10 to 15 years, with an optimal drinking window spanning through 2034.

Vintage Quality

The 2019 vintage in the Côte de Beaune was characterized by a hot and remarkably dry summer, which led to a lower yield but exceptionally concentrated fruit. Despite the seasonal heat, the grapes retained a beautiful, striking natural acidity, allowing winemakers to craft reds with magnificent aromatic depth, ripe structural components, and intense freshness.
