Ardbeg Smokiverse
Introduction
Ardbeg Smokiverse is a premium limited edition single malt scotch from the island of Islay, Scotland. Produced by the Ardbeg Distillery, which was officially founded in 1815 by the MacDougall family, the brand is currently owned by the French luxury group LVMH through Moët Hennessy. This expression was released for Ardbeg Day 2025, the grand finale of the annual Fèis Ìle festival, and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee. It is notably the first whisky in the distillery's history to be crafted using a 'high gravity mashing' process, which utilizes less water and more barley to create an ultra concentrated wort.
Spirit Description
Maturation took place in classic ex-bourbon American oak barrels, resulting in a spirit that aims to amplify both tropical fruit notes and traditional peat smoke.
Colour: The spirit displays a bright, shimmering gold or faded gold hue.
Aroma: The nose features a 'smoky bubblegum' explosion combined with grilled tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, and banana, balanced by toasted sourdough bread and ripening barley.
Palate: It offers a rich and creamy mouthfeel that transitions into sharp, sooty, and spicy notes of creosote, aniseed, and clove. These are tempered by the distinct sweetness of muscovado sugar and butterscotch.
Body: The whisky is characterized by its monumental depth and a thick, indulgent texture that remains powerful yet balanced.
Finish: It concludes with a long, almost infinite finish where earthy peat moss fuses with sizzling bonfire embers, charcoal, and lingering hints of salt.
ABV: Ardbeg Smokiverse is bottled at 48.3% (96.6 proof).
